BTEC LEVEL 3 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Our curriculum intent is to have an ambitious and inclusive curriculum, that empowers our students to become life-long learners and successful global citizens.

The BTEC Information Technology Level 3 qualification covers a range of IT topics.  Students have to complete mandatory units, which include creating systems, cybersecurity and information technology systems.  In addition to this, students will also learn how to programme using Python and Visual Basic.  They will also develop a website using HTML. Through a well-sequenced curriculum, we intend to embed knowledge and skills that challenge all learners.

Our curriculum is designed to cultivate a rich subject specific vocabulary, enabling our students to think and write like an IT Professional and students are taught disciplinary literacy in an explicit and direct manner.

Students learn many real-life applications of IT, crucial in the modern workplace, including website development, how to use online Social Media to promote a business and the dangers of cybersecurity.

To raise aspirations and allow our students to make informed decisions about their future, we provide subject specific careers education. Many of our students study degree course in IT and related areas such as: Information Technology Management, Business Information Technology, IT Management for Business or Cybersecurity.

Our Curriculum Maps outline our curriculum design and the development of knowledge and skills in Years 12 and 13. The curriculum is adapted to support and challenge students with different starting points, whilst remaining ambitious for all. Students are examined on the Edexcel Specification in BTEC Level 3 Information Technology.
