CTEC LEVEL 3 SPORT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Our curriculum intent is to have an ambitious and inclusive curriculum, that empowers our students to become life-long learners and successful global citizens.
In CTEC Sport Studies Level 3, students will learn about body systems and physical activity, sports coaching and leadership and sports organisation and development.
Our curriculum is designed to build a strong subject-specific vocabulary. Disciplinary literacy is taught explicitly to support students in understanding technical language and structuring extended responses. Students explore real-world sporting contexts of what makes good coaches and leaders, how sports organisations are structured and how sports are promoted in the UK. Students will develop their own leadership skills and learn how to plan, promote and deliver their own sports events.
To raise aspirations and support informed career choices, we offer subject-specific careers education. Sports is a vast industry within the UK, which has numerous options for employment for young people. This could be coaching or personal training, sports administration and organisation, or sport science. Students completing Level 3 Sport and Physical Activity have a range of options available to them, including employment in any of these industries, or further study at University or College.
Our Curriculum Maps clearly outline the progression of knowledge and skills across Years 12 and 13. The curriculum is adapted to support and stretch learners of all abilities while remaining ambitious for all. The course includes a combination of theory and practical units, with the majority of students' work assessed through the completion of coursework. The qualification for the Extended Certificate is graded as Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*, and is the equivalent of one A-Level.
