  • 16-19 POST 16 TUITION SUPPORT

    Published 22/07/21

Year 12 students have been invited to the Summer Tuition programme which is taking place between 09 -13 August 2021.

These sessions will take place at the School and are a great opportunity for students to catch up with the loss of learning, to prepare for assessments, as well as their public examinations in 2022.

The tutors who will be delivering these catch-up sessions have all achieved excellent A Level grades, along with other qualifications in these subjects. They therefore have the necessary expertise to support your child. Teachers will be monitoring the quality of provision by attending the sessions, to ensure that these are fit for purpose and effective.

Additional support and tuition will be provided at the start of the new academic year, to help students prepare for examinations.

  • YEAR 6 INTO 7 SUMMER SCHOOL

    Published 22/07/21

Heston places great importance on its transition programme, ensuring all our new Year 7 students are happy and confident as they start the next phase of their education. This year, the impact of the pandemic has increased the challenges faced by transitioning students. They have missed a significant proportion of face-to-face teaching and, therefore, valuable preparation for secondary education.

In preparation for secondary school, we are offering all our new Year 7 students a weeklong Summer School programme. The Summer School will provide students with face-to-face support and the opportunity to meet staff and fellow students before starting with us in September. The programme will involve a mix of academic and enrichment activities, with a focus on well-being. Academic activities will include English, Mathematics and Science and the other sessions will involve sports, team building activities, art and a funfair.

The Summer Schools will take place from 09 to 20 August. Half the cohort will attend each week and be split into six groups, following a carousel of activities.

  • NETMUMS PREVENT FORUM

    Published 08/07/21

On 06 July CT Policing launched an online ‘drop-in’ clinic on Netmums. It will be open for six weeks to allow everyone the opportunity to ask questions about Prevent and seek advice about radicalisation and extremism.

Not all children are vulnerable to radicalisation but some are, and every parent and carer needs to know the potential risks and what to look out for. The forum will assist in understanding this better, but there are also informative articles on the Netmums website to find out how to make your child digitally savvy to help protect them and help make them more resilient to potential risks. There is also advice on how to have a conversation with your child about the potential risks of radicalisation as you would with drugs, sexting and child sexual exploitation.

We are here to help and to listen. You will not be wasting our time. The earlier you tell us your worries, the quicker we can get help for the person you care which will protect them from being groomed and radicalised.

Go to Netmums to read the forum [https://www.netmums.com/coffeehouse/being-mum-794/tweens-teens-61/2f7cf95d-sponsored-join-our-expert-q-a-and-find-out-more-about-online-extremism.html]
