BMX Demonstration by UK Champion

Year 7 students see BMX tricks then try some!

Lee doing tricksLee Musselwhite, two times UK BMX Flatland Champion, visited Heston to demonstrate his BMX skills and encourage students to get on their bikes as well as giving them a chance to attempt some BMX tricks themselves.

Lee was accompanied by Tom and they both talked to Year 7 students about bike safety - always wearing a helmet and ensuring your bike is well maintained. They also encouraged the students to use their bikes more. The environmental and fitness benefits of cycling to school rather than travelling by car are being highlighted to students as part of Heston’s Travel Plan.

Lee and Tom also talked about the importance of practise and perseverance in anything you do, be it BMX or any other sport or skill that you are keen to develop. Lee talked about the hours he had to spend each day to get him to the level to become a champion. He then went on to demonstrate a range of breathtaking tricks which clearly demonstrated that “practise makes perfect!”

The students then had an opportunity to test out their skills on the BMX bikes with Lee and Tom guiding them. The cheers of thanks they gave Lee and Tom at the end of the session suggested they had thoroughly enjoyed the visit!

Lee and Tom are from Inspire Promotions and their visit to Heston was very kindly provided by the London Borough of Hounslow.
