In our efforts to continue to develop students’ literacy we have launched a ‘Word of the Week’ programme.

The ‘Word of the Week’ will be displayed in classrooms and around the school and will be used throughout lessons in order to ensure students are developing their vocabulary. Literacy achievement points can now be awarded to students for the correct usage of these words in all lessons.

The ‘Word of the Week’ for the week commencing 27th June is: Empower.

Empower:

1. Give someone the authority or power to do something

I empowered my students by allowing them to select the level of challenge they attempted in my lesson.

2. To make someone stronger or more powerful

Wealth empowered her to live a comfortable life.

Synonyms: Warrant, Commission, Qualify

Antonyms: Veto, Disenfranchise, Revoke

Will one of the three below be empowered shortly?
