Coffee Club Quiz

Coffee Mornings and Parent Forum sessions to help support students

Parents and students after the Quiz

Regular Parents’ Coffee morning visitors took part in a quiz at their last coffee morning before Christmas. Two teams of parents competed against their children (our students) … and the students won! The key round was the hula hoop which despite some athletic work by parents was won by the students.

The hula hoop round in the quizHeston’s Coffee Mornings and Parent Forums are both social events and the opportunity for parents to talk to the school as well as, in the case of the most recent Parent Forum, finding out more about helping your child in school.

The theme for the parent forum held on Wednesday 3rd December was "Supporting Your Child's Learning" and it focused on Literacy.  Mr Shaun O’Keefe, Curriculum Leader for English, delivered an informative evening which highlighted that literacy was present in every subject and was therefore key in supporting a student’s success.

He also highlighted that the parents’ interest and involvement in a child's education and learning is more important than anything in helping the child reach their full potential.

The successful evening was well attended and parents were asked to get involved by taking part in a spelling test!

Some of the comments from parents illustrated it was both informative and enjoyable:

“Immensely enjoyed this seminar”

“Excellent informative session and we would like to see more of this in other subjects such as maths and science.”

“Very useful in a relaxed environment.”

All parents and carers are welcome to Heston’s Coffee Mornings and Parent Forum evenings.
