Our A and B Teams are training hard. All of our hard work paid off when both teams won 8-0 against Cranford Community School recently. Adi, Mason and Michael got the goals for the A Team. We found it easy because we practice dribbling, passing and shooting so much. We also know how to help each other get better, and we do running sometimes to build stamina.

I enjoy working as a team. We have to try jumping to get our footwork right. We take test shots to help the goalie. We always have test matches and Mr Abdulla switches our positions, so we get used to different roles.

Heston Community School’s Under 14 Girls Basketball Team won two decisive, mighty victories against other local schools on 11 January. The girls played with a lot of determination and resilience.

We won the first match, against The Heathland School, 26-0.  This boosted our confidence for our game against Lampton School. We won this game 28-0. Without the team's strong bond we couldn't of won these matches.

As Team Captain, I am so proud of our team. The players were: Angelina [point guard], Salma, Paige, Lina, Flora, Anerly, Tegan, Leila, Natalia and myself.

We are incredibly grateful to the dedicated Heston PE Team for coaching us. We are looking forward to fixtures against more London schools in the near future.

On Thursday 9th December Heston Community School had its first Winter Music Concert. Over 40 students took part, with the majority of students having only started playing an instrument in September. Students performed on their own, as part of ensembles or as part of choir using range of instruments including guitars, drums, piano and saxophones.  

Whilst I was very nervous waiting to sing the Tracy Chapman song 'Baby Can I Hold You', the support from all my friends, teachers and the Sixth Formers, really boosted my confidence. Once I was on stage, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the concert was really fun. It made all the practice that I had completed at home and school worth it.  During the concert I also really enjoyed listening to everyone else’s performance, and I was extremely impressed.

The experience was outstanding, and I only wish it had lasted longer. I can’t wait to take part in the Summer Concert.

I was selected for work experience over the course of a week.  I was able to work as a Legal Assistant at Ash Solicitors in Hounslow.  This meant I was able to participate in the daily of paralegals and also to observe the routines of solicitors. I was able to observe the processes before going to court as well as to understand the timings and the casework needed for both civil and criminal case. I was very privileged to have the opportunity to work on several divorce cases and as the week progressed the divorce process from a simple petition being issues to applying for Decree Absolute was made clear.  I was able to work with clients and I gained knowledge of a range of issues which can influence the complexity of their case, for example a divorce with the needs of minors to consider. By working as a Legal Assistant, I was able to understand the responsibilities of paralegals, as well as the requirements needed to become a solicitor.

Congratulations to Eliad Ahmed, Qais Remtulla, Simranjeet Kaur and Navvya Makwana, who finished in the top 10 Schools in Hounslow and Middlesex.

A team of four Chemists, aged 14-16, were selected to compete at the Top of the Bench, Royal Society of Chemistry, inter-school competition. During the competition, we had numerous rounds of questions - each testing out chemical knowledge, under timed conditions. At the end, we played a bonus round where we were asked rather intriguing questions, such as what are metalloids? I learnt a myriad of new things, ranging from desulphurisation to the origins of elements.

Heston Students have taken part in a national poetry writing competition, hosted by ‘Young Writers’. Students were asked to write a poem on a topic they felt passionate about, giving them the opportunity to project their voice to the world and speak their truth. It was delightful to see many submissions entered from Heston, and the following students’ poems were selected for publication in the Young Writer’s Poetry Anthology for 2022:

'I thought I heard it'

 I thought I heard it up on the hills,

The highs and lows gave me the chills.

All the joyful peace in my life it fills,

Any sadness in me it always kills.

It flows like the water in a beautiful river
