The Orwell Project at Eton College
On Thursday 7th February and Friday 8th February, Year 10 and Year 12 English Literature students participated in The Orwell Project at Eton College.
Students contributed to a series of debates about the most pressing social injustice in the modern world. Journalists, including The Guardian’s Arifa Akbar, facilitated workshops to help students to voice their ideas and shape meaning in their writing.
The Orwell Youth Prize is a competition for political protest writing by young people; last year, former Heston student Nisha Baweja (13F) was ‘highly commended’ by the judges for her story ‘The Aftermath’.
The prize is open to writers aged 13-18 in the UK and any form of writing -journalism, essays, short stories, blog posts, poems and even plays - is welcome. This year's theme is 'A Fair Society?'
