Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
A group of 45 Year 7 students enjoyed a visit to the Drury Lane Theatre in the West End to watch Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Year 7 students are benefitting from a Reading Mentor scheme that has been trialed with 7 Blue and 10 Blue. The scheme involves pairing Year 7 students with Year 10 students who will then read together to help improve literacy levels.
The response and feedback received from students and teachers has been extremely positive. The scheme aims to help improve attainment and literacy levels and develop student confidence, well-being and contribute significantly to creating a more cohesive community.
The scheme has been so successful and popular that it is to be expanded across the entire year group.
A Taste of Heston
Year 7 students were introduced to the delicious range of meals available at school and guided through the payment system, a cashless system where students use their finger to activate their account that parents top up on line. Tony Lones, Group Development Chef at Wilson Jones our Caterers, and Ryan Moore, Heston's Head Chef had created a selection of what is on offer daily at Heston for the students to try.
The School and Wilson Jones are committed to provide a healthy and nutritious range of food that students really like. On this taster day they were able to sample some soup, pizza and flapjack -this may not sound like the healthiest range but the pizza dough includes a range of vegetables and the flapjack contained banana and yogurt. The students' smiles on the day suggest that they do like the food on offer!
