Students have the opportunity every week to try fun experiments and investigate topics outside of the national curriculum from making slime to creating smoke bazookas.

Stem Club – Bronze Crest Award (KS4)
Students can gain a Bronze Crest Science Award through independent investigation. This year students created moving robotic arms.
Year 7 students take part in the annual Heston Community School Science Fair where they are given the opportunity to research any scientific question they choose and create a detailed presentation. Winners last year included “Are snowflakes unique?” and “Can we predict earth quakes?”
British Science Week
The Science teachers puts on a show of exciting demonstrations, with the support of Post 16 Science Students.
Students are encouraged to enter a range of competitions including the British Science Week investigation competition, World Space Week essay competition, British Physics Olympiad, Shell Bright Ideas Challenge and Heston Wildlife photographer of the year.
We work with Brunel University to offer trips with include “Girls Aloud” – getting women into Science, “Young Engineer’s day” and “Biomedical degree Taster day”.
Speakers are invited to talk to the students about scientific careers and how to get onto Science degree courses.
