Key Stage 3 

Students will develop their understanding of topics from the Core Themes of Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World, as well as covering aspects of Citizenship and Careers Education. Year 7 lessons focus on the transition from primary to secondary School and how to make a successful start to their secondary careers, both academically and socially. The curriculum in Year 8 and 9 build on the Core Themes, with topics reflecting students’ growing maturity and the challenges they may face in an increasingly complex world.

 YEAR 9

 Teenage pregnancy:  Staying safe, making appropriate choices,

 Careers Fair:  Meeting employers

 Careers: Pathways and Options choices

 Street Safety – the impact of crime

 Mental wellbeing:  Self-harming

 Rule of Law:  Concepts of individual liberty and social contract;  Purpose of legal system

 Mock Magistrate’s Trial

Key Stage 4 

Students will continue to build on topics covered at Key Stage 3 whilst meeting the more specific requirements of a Key Stage 4 cohort. Citizenship enables students understand the political, legal and economic functions of society, have the social and moral awareness to make informed decisions and become active members of their local, national and global community. The focus on maintaining good Mental Health and developing study skills is particularly useful in helping students prepare for their GCSE examinations.
