  • Successful Challenge Partners Review

    Published 28/02/22

As part of the School's drive to continually improve the experience for students at Heston Community School, an external review led by 'Challenge Partners' took place in January. As part of this process, five senior leaders from other schools took part in a wide variety of activities including lesson visits, student interviews and staff conversations, across 3 days.

The reviewers were very complimentary about the School. They were particularly impressed with the very positive relationships between staff and students, high quality teaching and learning, careers education and musical, sporting and subject specific extra-curricular opportunities offered by the School.

  • Holocaust Memorial Day Speaker

    Published 28/02/22

In our History lesson we heard from a descendant of a Jewish family who had survived the Holocaust. It was a truly very powerful. We learnt how the children in the family were taken away from their parents and the awful conditions they consequently had to live in. We learnt how hard they had to work in factories, with very little food, the poor conditions and how far they had to walk early in the morning just to get to work. I now wonder if one day to think about the Holocaust is really enough?

  • Heston Bookmark Winners

This term there was a competition to design a bookmark to promote a love of reading at Heston Community School. I chose to design my bookmark with a 'Reading Tree' and children reading. They are relaxed in different areas of the garden, enjoying their books. How many children did you spot?

I entered this competition because I love art and reading. I am so pleased that I won this competition and my art will be seen across the whole school. Congratulations to Amrit Bassi [12G] who also won with her entry showing classic literature characters such as Frankenstein, Aslan, Mathilda and Harry Potter.

Please follow the links below to see our new Heston bookmarks.

Since I first joined the club, coding has really developed my cognitive skills by teaching me to solve problems by looking at the problem from a different perspective. All the skills that I have learnt from coding might help me to tackle any future challenges that I face with a critical way of thinking.”  Renaya Singh

Humanities Club has helped me gain confidence and develop my knowledge of the world around me.”  Jassia Kwokova

    RUNNING CLUB

“I really do enjoy running club as I believe that running is one of the best forms of exercise anyone can do, and it's available to anyone for free! Also, it is not the same repetitive running that everyone may think it is, running non-stop for an hour. Instead, we alternate between long distance, short distance and even then, Mr Juriansz always finds a way to keep it interesting.”  Kevin Afonso

"Really engaging, the Sensei makes everyone feel at home and everyone was involved."

    Arjun Sidhu

I thoroughly enjoy the Karate Club. Not only are the blocks and stances Sensei teaches us fascinating to learn, but Sensei also trains us mentally. We learn about self-control and discipline, and that was in my first session! The Karate Club is a unique experience but one that I am very proud to attend. After one session, I would heavily recommend it to anyone.

  • HPV and COVID-19 Vaccinations

    Published 10/02/22

This half-term, I decided to have the HPV and Covid-19 Vaccinations, along with hundreds of other Heston students. I made this decision to protect myself from cervical cancer and because members of my family have suffered with Covid-19. I want to do everything I can to stop the spread of this disease. I believe that ultimately prevention is better than a cure.

The nurses and vaccinators were very impressed with Heston students and commented that we were polite, well-behaved and well-informed.

  • Year 7 Boys Football Club

    Published 10/02/22

Our A and B Teams are training hard. All of our hard work paid off when both teams won 8-0 against Cranford Community School recently. Adi, Mason and Michael got the goals for the A Team. We found it easy because we practice dribbling, passing and shooting so much. We also know how to help each other get better, and we do running sometimes to build stamina.

    Emmanel Acheaw, 7B

I enjoy working as a team. We have to try jumping to get our footwork right. We take test shots to help the goalie. We always have test matches and Mr Abdulla switches our positions, so we get used to different roles.

  • NASA Professor Guest Speaker

    Published 10/02/22

Professor of Aerospace Engineering, Robyn Woollands from The University of Illinois, visited our school and spoke to us about her career journey, from working for NASA to her fantastic expeditions across Antarctica.

At NASA, she worked on various projects such as developing the Mars Rover. It was incredible to learn about how much she had accomplished in a short span of time. In addition, it was inspiring to see how much passion she had from a young age about Physics and space.

After changing her mind in University, she switched courses and was still able to pursue orbital mechanics — showing us it’s never too late to change your career options. The talk was phenomenal and valuable in proving that you can achieve anything you put your mind to!
