Students in KS3 took part throughout the week took part in an engaging British Science Week engineering challenge, where they designed and constructed their own wind turbines.

Working collaboratively in teams, students explored how wind energy, as a renewable resource, can be harnessed to generate electricity. They investigated how variations in blade design, including size, shape and angle, influence performance, and applied this understanding to improve the efficiency of their models.

Following the construction phase, students tested their turbines under controlled conditions and evaluated which designs produced the greatest energy output. They then reflected on their results and refined their designs accordingly, engaging in an iterative process similar to that used by professional engineers.

This hands-on activity supported students in developing a deeper understanding of energy transfers (kinetic to electrical), as well as key principles of engineering design, problem-solving and evaluation, while also promoting teamwork and resilience.

Students were also encouraged to justify their design choices using scientific reasoning, explaining how specific adaptations improved performance. This helped to strengthen their ability to communicate scientific ideas clearly and apply their knowledge in a practical context.

There are many negative connotations of masculinity that are rife in the press and on social media. Here at Heston, we want to challenge those ideas by empowering our young men to always be respectful to their female peers. The School brought in a well-recognised charitable group that addressed these misconceptions about being a man with young people. Progressive Masculinity explored what it can mean to be ‘a man’ in today’s world and the incredible potential of being a man. With 4 billion men in the world, we believe there can be 4 billion different ways to 'be a man'.

The charity excels at creating safe, non-judgmental spaces where boys and men can explore their masculinity and its potential.

Their workshops and training empower boys and men to construct models of masculinity consistent with their values.

Ms I Hall [Deputy Headteacher]

The Progressive Masculinity Workshop for males and females was created to challenge outdated stereotypes about gender and encourage healthier, more inclusive ideas of what it means to be masculine.

It was necessary because many young people still feel pressurised to fit into narrow roles—boys to be tough and unemotional, and girls to conform to limiting expectations about behaviour and identity.

The assembly provided a safe space to explore emotions, respect, empathy, and equality, helping participants understand that strength can include kindness and vulnerability. Overall, it was a positive experience as it promoted mutual understanding, reduced harmful stereotypes, and empowered young people to express themselves more freely and confidently.

Ms S Jassal [Acting AHT]

The workshop was an enlightening experience that was provided for the Year 10 students. It opened doors for males to be sensitive and to promote positive masculinity to everyone across the year group. For the female students, it was an eye-opening chance to see the pressures that men face and how it is to be vulnerable in modern society. I hope to have more opportunities like this in the future.

Amelia Salkanovic [10W]

The Masculinity Workshop was an incredible experience. I believe it opened the eyes of many students. It helped us realise the two meanings of masculinity and showed that it is okay for men to have moments of vulnerability. It also highlighted the difference between toxic masculinity and true masculinity, which helped me, for the first time, to understand the distinction clearly.

Rimneet Kaur [10Y]

It was very impactful, as the speaker allowed the boys to see what it meant to be masculine in a different way. He put typical masculine stereotypes on trial and criticised them. It was an enlightening experience, as it reinforced the idea that being a man does not have to mean being big, strong, and emotionless. It is perfectly fine to be vulnerable, which is often seen as a feminine quality. The meaning of being a man is changing, and the assembly allowed us to understand how and why.

Fiazan Faissal [10W]

The workshop about Toxic Masculinity was very interesting and inspiring. We were intrigued by how, and for the first time, we were told we were allowed to express emotions. We felt heard and really listened to. I liked that we got to interact with the presenter and ask him questions about masculinity, something very stereotyped, and find the truth about how it really is during the assembly.

During the assembly, we watched a short video on how men could be and should be. In the video, a woman was getting very uncomfortable with a group of men who approached her and one of the men had stood up for her. This showed us that not all men are the same and not all are dangerous.

After, the presenter showed us some masks, made by some year 12 boys, that had words on the outside of how they thought they were meant to feel but on the inside they wrote about everything bothering them and how they really feel – emotions they were scared to show others. We thought this was an ideal way to convey how you feel because we can let go and no one will know who wrote it. It suggested that they were allowed to feel even if they weren't comfortable with it.

Overall, we thought the workshop was a major part of what children in Year 8 should be shown, as in this stage of life they project whatever they see, and this hopefully has a positive effect on their behaviour as they grow up and behave later in life.

Ilyas Ghafuri and Saanvi Gogar [8R]

We were fortunate to welcome an external speaker to our school. He spoke about the flaws of toxic masculinity and imparted wisdom through several examples that the idea of toxic masculinity is harmful. What truly resonated with me was the fact that the presenter stated that the idea of masculinity was not a fixed set of values, but rather built on the values one believes. This has greater links with other aspects of toxic masculinity and the state many men in modern society have arrived at. This included exploring the pressures placed on men with several positive ways to respond to these pressures. For example, a positive response is to maintain a healthy pressure from within to improve and follow one's own goals rather than conform to society and the overbearing external pressures brought about by it.

Alpi Uddin Bhuyan [11W]

The Year 11 assembly addressing progressive masculinity was very engaging and interesting. It explored the concept that being masculine is not just about conforming to pre-existing stereotypes, but also expressing emotions. We learnt that following expectations of what masculinity looks like means that you restrict your own personality and development. It was a valuable experience which allowed many of us to reflect on our own identities.

On Wednesday, 18 March Year 7 had an external visitor from Space Store to deliver an assembly on space and the experiences of astronauts. Thank you to Miss C Mohamed for organising this incredible experience!

Today, we were lucky enough to meet someone whose job it is to understand space. It was a great opportunity for us all to not only learn about the mysteries of space but also be inquisitive and ask him any questions we had. He talked about the different space suits and how astronauts are able to get to space both safely and successfully. Despite how intriguing the overall topic is, we were also made aware of the risks that could happen if you are sat in a rocket for an extremely long period of time. Your body can become very familiar with the atmosphere in space that when you step foot on Earth, it doesn't know how to react! He even bought a replica astronaut suit and we were fortunate enough to see our Learning Co-Ordinator, Miss Strachan, wear it! This assembly has by far been one of the most amazing and special assemblies yet!

Shanaya Gambhir [7Y]

Today's assembly was amazing! We got to have a person whose work is about space to come to our school. It was a privilege to have someone like that come and talk about the mysteries of space and how us humans even get to space safely. The person talked about the different astronaut suits that are made for the people and their purpose. For example, there is one for when they are just inside the spacecraft and one for when they are in actual space. He even brought a replica of one of the suits and our Learning co-ordinator, Miss Strachan, wore it and walked around in it! At the end, we could interact and ask questions about space and how the astronauts launch into it. It was probably the most special assembly yet.

Students took part in discussion-based activities looking at a contemporary issue of human rights. This workshop addressed the key theme by looking at the legal system in the UK and the rights and responsibilities of citizens. This reinforced the fundamental British value, helping students to understand how laws are applied and upheld in everyday life.

We learnt about key values that we should apply in the world, such as knowing our rights and respecting the rights of others. In this workshop, we also learnt about what is considered morally right and what is right by law. Moral rights are those that people believe are right as human beings, while legal rights are those established by the government to encourage people to act in a lawful manner. The Law Workshop helped us understand the difference between moral rights and legal rights. I really liked what we learnt at the workshop, as it gave us an opportunity to explore these ideas outside the classroom.

Debating each right was both fun and educational, as it showed us that even rights can have limits and how they should be enforced.

On 30 January, we welcomed alumni DCI Manveen Arora to speak to students about her career in the Metropolitan Police and the wide range of roles available from frontline policing to back office support. She shared insights into her professional journey, the challenges she has faced, and the opportunities that exist for those interested in pursuing a career in policing and public service.

It was great to hear about Manveen’s journey, especially as I have been exploring different career paths. Her talk helped me to understand the variety of opportunities within the police and what it takes to succeed in this field.

Khadhar Abdullahi [13F]

Today during form, we listened to an ex-Heston student, Manveen Arora, talk about her experience of becoming a Detective within the City police force, and it really uncovered her progression and the work which goes towards becoming a detective. Then, being able to speak to her within a smaller focus group allowed everyone to ask questions to see what the job was really like, the challenges she's faced, and the positives of her role.

Additionally, Jagdeesh Mali, a Quantity Surveyor, clearly explained his degree apprenticeship role and how he is progressing. By answering my questions, it enabled me to consider all the options available, which was really eye-opening and it genuinely inspired me to think more about my own progression after A-Levels.

As a Year 13 student, with a strong interest in studying real estate and finance, meeting with a quantity surveyor and a detective constable was a valuable and eye-opening opportunity to learn about two differing pathways. Meeting with the detective showed me how important communication and resilience is in the workplace. It was also inspiring to see the critical thinking that goes into being a detective. I also found it comforting that the university degree she obtained didn't necessarily link directly to becoming a detective and the graduate scheme is open to a variety of people, as I was afraid my choice of degree would limit me if I had a change of heart. In contrast, speaking to the quantity surveyor was fascinating, as I had heard of the job title but didn't know the context of the job. However, he illustrated the importance of financial investments, negotiating and persistence. He also stated that if I did decide to receive my desired degree in real estate and finance, I could also go into this line of work alongside there being other pathways to get this role, such as a degree apprenticeship. This sparked my interest in quantity surveying. Overall, this experience was informative and enjoyable and has inspired me to continue researching different jobs and pathways.

Data from 2024 - 2025 shows that over one million VAWG related crimes were recorded. In response to this, and to empower and educate our Sixth Form students, our Year 12 cohort has been working with Action Breaks Silence. This initiative aims to challenge and transform the prevailing narrative around violence against women and girls.

The programme uses a “Whole Schools Approach” [developed by AVA] to engage, educate and empower every member of the school community, including students, leadership teams, teachers and parents or carers, with the aim of preventing VAWG within schools and the wider community.

As part of this initiative, ten of our Year 12 students were successfully selected to take part in the Train-the-Trainer Programme, which equips young people with the skills and knowledge to deliver these programmes within their own communities. Our students completed six weeks of online training to prepare them for this role and are now working with Year 5 pupils at Cranford Primary School every Monday, helping to raise awareness and promote positive change from an early age.

With my exams approaching and already having offers from universities to study Medicine, I found the talk especially motivating in the lead-up to my exams.

Hearing from someone who was once in our position made the goal of studying Medicine feel more real and achievable. Moaiad’s advice and honesty about the process gave us a lot to think about as we prepare for the next stage of our education. I am looking forward to hopefully coming back in the future and being in Moaiad’s position, sharing my own journey with students who are hoping to follow a similar path.

The Year 7 & 8 Girls Football Team produced a fantastic performance in a competitive fixture against St Mark’s. From kick-off, it was clear that both sides were evenly matched, showing great teamwork, determination, and impressive skills. The girls started well, stringing passes together confidently and putting St Mark’s under pressure. The breakthrough came after some excellent attacking play from Zaynab and Laara, resulting in our first goal of the match from Mia. St Mark’s responded well and managed to equalise before half-time. Our player of the match, Jannat, made some incredible saves, giving us the momentum we needed. Going into halftime.

The second half continued at a high intensity. Our players showed real resilience and teamwork, creating several strong chances before Mia scored her second goal to retake the lead. St Mark’s pushed back, and despite some excellent defending from Aaliyah, Raisam and Zofia, they found a late equaliser to make it 2–2 at full time. With the match level, the game moved to a penalty shoot out. It was a tense finish, with both teams holding their nerve well. Despite two confident goals from our players, St Mark’s edged the shoot out 3–2.

The medical careers day trip was full of lots of different engaging activities, including a session on diagnostics, where we learnt about the different types of medical equipment doctors use daily to diagnose patients, as well as a session on anatomy. We were also given the opportunity to speak to many different medical students, as well as two consultants, a cardiologist and an emergency medicine doctor, who were able to answer any questions we had throughout the day.
I believe that the Macbeth play was absolutely brilliant. The fact that there were only four actors and they were able to memorise all the lines for the play was very impressive. The actors were very expressive and were in character for each character they played – this helped me to remember the play better. The scene which I enjoyed the most had to be the fight scene between Macbeth and Macduff. Another scene which I enjoyed was the panic that Macbeth and Lady Macbeth shared after killing Duncan, which foreshadows the mental breakdown that they have.

We were fortunate enough to experience the Macbeth play during our usual English lessons. The play was a very insightful experience. It provided a great benefit to my understanding of Macbeth as we were able to view Macbeth through its intended medium. I find that watching the performance enriched my understanding of the play, giving me deeper insight into the characters and their motives. This was further compounded by the immaculate performance by the actors.

The Macbeth performance was amazing. All the actors played their characters to perfection, from the accents to the language. There were also times of comic relief to allow us as an audience to relax and take in what was happening.

The choreography for the fight scenes was absolutely perfect, it was as if I was watching a Star Wars movie! These actors really put their heart into what they do and I was really aspired to be like them.

Performing on stage was a dream come true. I’ve always had a passion for acting and performing in front of an actual audience. I’m so grateful for Questors Theatre and my teacher Ms Bahra for making it come true.

We had a 2-hour workshop with a professional Actor and Director, Ellie. She was amazing and very helpful and made our performance even better.

Being on stage was magical and scary. The pressure of not messing up your lines and not being loud enough. However, the part when everyone’s looking at you, clapping at your performance, the praise you get after, the adrenaline, the spotlight on you, the feeling when you know you nailed it.

Yesterday, our school hosted an exhilarating workshop run by Heathrow’s STEM outreach team, which challenged us to step into the shoes of airport engineers. Working in groups of four, our task was to design, build, and program a functioning vehicle and make it navigate a real-life track.

The experience was a brilliant test of teamwork and communication. As the coding had to work perfectly in the physical world, my group had to stay constantly aligned to make sure our software instructions matched the vehicle's actual movements. We quickly learnt that strong leadership was essential to keep us on track, especially when we hit "technical hurdles" that required us to brainstorm and problem-solve as a unit.

The dilemma we had was difficult. However, my team stayed resilient and found a solution. Our vehicle seemed not to work, so we borrowed another car. Both of these cars just didn't work. Of course, we got extremely worried, but we stayed calm and collected. The pressure was intense! We asked the team volunteers to help us with the vehicle, and they did! The help was genuinely appreciated.

By the end of the session, the room was filled with energy as we put our coded vehicles to the ultimate test in a "race off" against other teams. We only had one minute to make the car move around! Although we didn’t fully complete the coding to make the vehicle go back onto the road, it was incredibly rewarding to see our hard work come to life, and the workshop gave us a real insight into how STEM skills are used every day to keep one of the world's busiest airports running steadily.

Haniah Razvi [8B]

In the workshop, we were put into groups of four. In the group we had to do a quiz at the start about Heathrow Airport. Then we were shown the steps on how to program a chip which we would connect to the car. The car had to go across a bridge to the runway, then get a new light from the tool shed. This had many challenges, such as the car going off the track. This resulted in the teams adjusting the program of speed and turn time.

We had to make a design for the car. Most teams went for vibrant colours, so people would know something has gone wrong and they need to be cautious of what is around them. This was a very crucial part of the workshop as it showed us that you must be careful of your surroundings. This also shows the usage of creativity in the workshop.

The workshop also taught us the importance of working together in a team and that everyone in the team has a fair role, or the end piece will have some mistakes. The workshop also taught about the job opportunities we have and showed how key skills like creativity and teamwork not only contribute in school but also outside of school when you get a job. The workshop overall gave us an idea of what we could become in the future.

Ro Nath and David-Geroge [8G]

Yesterday, our school participated in an incredible workshop hosted by Heathrow Airport. The experience allowed us to step into the shoes of airport engineers to see if we had the resilience to handle their high-pressure roles. Our task sounded straightforward; we had to code a vehicle to reach a broken light and fix it within a one-minute time limit. However, we soon discovered that coding is far more problematic than it looks.

Our team hit several obstacles early on. Initially, we were given two cars that simply wouldn't move, which could have been a disaster. Instead of giving up, we stayed positive and kept working. The time pressure was so intense that we couldn't even finish the car's design because we were so focused on making sure the code worked. Through resilience and leadership, we overcame these technical glitches and successfully completed the work as a team. The Heathrow team was thoroughly impressed by our work and our ability to stay calm under pressure. It was a tough challenge, but by working as a team, we proved we could handle anything.

Reflecting on that day, I’ve realised that being an engineer isn't just about knowing how to code; it’s about having the resilience to keep going when things don’t work the first time. Even though we struggled with broken cars and a 20-minute time, the sense of achievement we felt when our car finally moved was amazing. This workshop showed me that teamwork and problem solving are just as important as technology itself. I’m really proud of how our team stayed positive throughout the pressure, and I now have a much clearer idea of the exciting, coded challenges that people face every day at a world airport like Heathrow.

This term, our KS4 Girls’ Gym Club has continued to go from strength to strength, with exceptional attendance and an inspiring level of commitment from all students involved. The club has created a positive, empowering environment where the girls can focus on their fitness, build confidence, and support one another in leading healthy, active lifestyles.

The enthusiasm shown by the girls each week has been remarkable. Due to growing popularity, there has now been a second gym session added for the girls, which is run by a female personal trainer, motivating them and providing them with a safe, inclusive space for the girls to build their confidence. Whether they are working on cardiovascular fitness, strength training, or flexibility, they consistently demonstrate resilience, determination, and teamwork. Their dedication reflects not only a passion for physical activity but also a growing understanding of the crucial role that health and wellbeing play in academic success.

As we move closer to the examination season, staying active is more important than ever. Regular exercise has been proven to boost concentration, reduce stress, and improve sleep quality—all essential ingredients for effective revision and strong performance in exams. The KS4 Girls’ Gym Club offers a valuable space for students to unwind, re‑energise, and balance their study commitments with physical activity.

We are incredibly proud of the progress, positivity, and community spirit shown by everyone participating this year. Well done to all the girls for their continued dedication. Keep up the fantastic work—your effort today strengthens both your body and mind for the busy months ahead!

Students found out about the range of apprenticeships available and the different levels available. Students now have an idea of the value of undertaking an apprenticeship as an alternative route along their careers journey. Students are also aware of how to apply for these opportunities and where to seek further help if needed. This is invaluable advice as they start to think about their options and routes into employment after completing GCSE.

Heston Chess Club meets every Tuesday lunchtime in SG40.

When I first came to this school, my friends and I sometimes felt bored during lunchtime because we didn’t always know what to do. Then we discovered Chess Club.

At first, I wasn’t sure about joining, but I decided to give it a try — and it turned out to be an amazing decision. Chess Club is a wonderful place where everyone is kind, supportive and encouraging. It makes learning chess more fun and exciting. Since joining, I have improved my problem-solving and strategic thinking skills. I have also become more confident and made new friends. Now, I actually look forward to lunchtime because I know I get to go to Chess Club.

I’m really happy I joined, and I would definitely recommend it to other students.

Harkirat Singh [Year 7]

Before joining Chess Club, I already knew how to play, but I did not find the game particularly enjoyable. Playing alongside friends and peers has changed my experience completely. The supportive and friendly environment has made chess more engaging and enjoyable, while also helping me to improve my skills.

I’ve been going to Chess Club for a while now, and it’s become one of my favourite parts of the week. It runs every Tuesday at lunchtime in SG40, and the best thing is that absolutely anyone can come along, whether you’ve been playing for years or you’ve never even touched a chessboard before. Each session has a really relaxed feel, with plenty of friendly matches happening around the room and lots of chances to learn new strategies from other players. Some of the best players are competitive in the best way, and they love taking on anyone who’s up for a challenge, and tournaments are hosted against other schools, which makes things even more exciting. Beginners are always welcome, and advanced players get plenty of tough games too, so there’s something for everyone. Since joining, I’ve noticed how much it helps with concentration and problem-solving, and it has definitely boosted my confidence over time. It also teaches teamwork and good sportsmanship, because we all learn from each other and support one another’s progress. The atmosphere is friendly, supportive, inclusive, and genuinely fun, which is why so many of us keep coming back. If you’re even a little bit curious, come along next Tuesday and bring a friend, because the more people who join, the better the club becomes.

Vajahat Hussain [Year 13]

Thank you to Ms Lebied and Ms Dussroth for running this activity.

Students had a wonderful opportunity to participate in the Cambridge University - Homerton Biology Challenge for the 2025-26 academic year (ongoing). The challenge comprises multiple rounds, each featuring a broad, thought-provoking question linked to Biology, i.e., ‘Can new life be created?’ and ‘Why is Maths a gift for Biologists?’. Options for submitting responses include essays, audio, video, posters, and presentations.

Designed to mirror university-style questions at interviews, exposure to, and engagement with scientific research, this challenge put many skills to the test, such as critical thinking, effective written communication, and thoughtful research, utilising multiple resources to produce responses. Some students received certificates for participation, ‘commended’ for their entries, equal to 2 points, with some also earning a badge of Merit equal to 0.5 bonus point. It is a significant and proud achievement, both for students and teachers at Heston Community School.

Participants said the experience boosted their confidence and deepened their interest in pursuing science in the future. The challenge inspired greater enthusiasm for biology and motivated students to continue exploring complex scientific topics beyond the classroom. It is an experience we will never forget.

As part of their PSHE learning this term, Year 7 took part in a thoughtful and practical lesson on online friendships. Students explored the positives of both online and ‘real life’ relationships, recognising what healthy friendships look like in each setting. They also discussed how online interactions can sometimes become problematic, such as when there is constant pressure for attention or approval.

To bring their learning to life, students created advice posters offering clear, sensible tips on how to stay safe online and build positive digital connections. A selection of their fantastic work is shared below.

Alla Fedko [7Y]: We made online safety posters so that we can understand that sometimes being online is dangerous, so we wish you all to be safe online and to actually socialise more in real life. We learnt to never make your account public and to never trust people online unless you know them.

Inayah Mughal [7Y]: We wrote about online safety to show awareness of the dangers and risks that could occur, we learnt how to stay safe online and know the major risks online. Online safety is really important because it can teach you how to stay safe by protecting your personal information, not meeting strangers or talking to them online.

Shanaya Gambhir [7Y]: We made posters based on online safety to make others aware of the dangers that social media can pose. We learnt about keeping all social media accounts private, not sharing personal information with other (addresses, full names, bank details) as well as what to do if you feel unsafe online. We were able to understand the risks through "what would you do" scenarios.

Sumayyah Chaudhri [7Y]: Our posters were about online safety and to remind people of the dangers of social media. Having online friends means you should create more boundaries that protect your personal information as you don't know who they really are.

Heston Community School was honoured to welcome dignitaries and guests from the Borough to the annual Holocaust Memorial Day organised by the Hounslow Friends of Faith. Our special guest was Eliana Ostro, granddaughter of a Holocaust survivor, who delivered a powerful and deeply moving presentation. Through personal family stories and reflections passed down through generations, she helped us understand the lasting impact of the Holocaust and the importance of preserving these memories. Her message reminded us of our shared responsibility to stand against prejudice and ensure history is never forgotten. We are grateful for her time, insight, and willingness to share such a meaningful legacy.

Mr Clayton [Senior Assistant Headteacher]

We were given the chance to hear a deeply moving talk from the granddaughter of a Holocaust survivor. Through her powerful delivery, she guided the audience through her grandfather’s harrowing journey, describing the disappearance of his family, his wrongful arrests, and the constant fight for survival he endured. The videos she shared added an emotional weight that stirred compassion for him and for the Jewish community who lived through such unimaginable suffering.

She also connected the lessons of the past to the injustices of today, acknowledging the struggles faced by both Palestinian and Israeli people. Her message encouraged us to challenge hate, confront discrimination, and recognise how deeply rooted prejudice still is in society. The talk left a lasting emotional impact and reminded us why remembrance must continue.

Maria Beigi [12B]

The granddaughter of a Holocaust survivor delivered a powerful presentation speaking with remarkable emotion and clarity. She recounted her grandfather’s experiences during the Holocaust, describing the countless obstacles he faced, the loss of his family, and the injustices he endured. The videos she shared brought his story to life and left the audience deeply moved by the resilience he showed in the face of such horror.

Beyond recounting history, she highlighted the importance of recognising injustice in the world today. She drew thoughtful parallels to the ongoing struggles of both Palestinians and Israelis, urging us to speak out against hatred and raise awareness of discrimination wherever it appears. Her talk served as a powerful reminder of why remembering the past is essential for shaping a more just future.

Ayma Babar [12B]

On the 27 January, our school observed Holocaust Memorial Day. Dignitaries from Hounslow were in attendance, alongside the granddaughter of a Holocaust Survivor. We learnt about the Holocaust and its impact on those who lost their lives, as well as the survivors. We heard stories told from the survivors’ perspectives, which gave us an even deeper understanding of their experiences.

The Holocaust not only affected the survivors but also their families and the wider community. Many survivors were left with a constant feeling of fear, never feeling safe. They often felt they had to be careful wherever they went and struggled to trust others. This shows the effects of the Holocaust, how it influenced families and their ways of thinking.

Many victims who were found or managed to escape still faced hardships. Some had to bargain for their lives, sleep outside in the snow, or live underground with barely enough food to survive. Even today, Jewish people continue to face discrimination, and many feel pressured to hide their identities.

This memorial gave us the opportunity to reflect on past atrocities and understand how learning from history can help shape a better and safer future, one where everyone can feel equal and accepted.

This dedicated day focusses on developing students’ communication skills through structured, age-appropriate activities that actively engage them in thinking, speaking and listening.

Students participated in a wide range of activities, including formal debates, word-tennis rebuttals, collaborative discussions and timed persuasive, peer-assessed speeches. These activities help students build confidence, express ideas clearly and listen and respond thoughtfully to others.

We transported the generous food donations made by the school to the food bank, and while we were there, we were able to witness first hand, the incredible effects that donations have on our local community, and the amazing work that volunteers do. Their gratitude for our contribution, and astonishment at seeing a whole minibus full of donations, helped us realise the importance of giving back to the community, and helping projects and initiatives that support our community, especially during times of hardship, and when more and more people rely on our support. The experience was deeply enriching and valuable and I was very lucky to be able to be involved in such a great and important activity. Sahil Kotak [11P]

This year, our enrichment opportunities are thriving. Year 7 Scholars have been diving into exciting challenges through our STEM Club, where they explore science and technology in creative ways, and our Comprehension Club, designed to sharpen critical reading and thinking skills. These initiatives help build strong foundations for future learning.

For our older Scholars, the journey continues with The Brilliant Club. Year 8 and 9 students will take part in this prestigious programme, working alongside university researchers to develop advanced academic skills and experience higher-level study. These opportunities reflect our commitment to nurturing curiosity, resilience, and ambition across all year groups.

Our Year 9 Scholars are appreciative of the opportunity and understand how this will benefit them. Here's what some of them have to say.

I'm looking forward to the Brilliant Club giving us a taste of what university will look like and understanding how this will help prepare us for if/when we decide to go. Zain Zakarali [9W]

The Brilliant club will expand our education and provides a good opportunity to learn additional skills that we may not learn in a normal lesson. I'm looking forward to learning lots! Jakub Zawrotniak [9W]

This term, we are proud to celebrate a group of exceptional students who have demonstrated these qualities through their outstanding attendance and unwavering commitment to our enrichment clubs.

Attendance is more than just being present. It reflects a student’s determination to make the most of every learning opportunity. These students have shown remarkable consistency, ensuring they are engaged in various enrichment clubs, ready to learn and grow as an individual. Their reliability sets a powerful example for their peers and reinforces the importance of responsibility in achieving academic and personal goals.

Equally impressive is their engagement in enrichment activities. From sports clubs to STEM clubs and creative workshops, these students have embraced opportunities beyond the classroom. Their enthusiasm for learning new skills, collaborating with others, and challenging themselves highlights the true spirit of our school community. Participation in enrichment clubs fosters creativity, teamwork, and leadership skills that prepare students for life beyond school. Coupled with excellent attendance, these qualities create well-rounded individuals who are ready to thrive in any environment.

As a celebration of their hard work and dedication, some of our SEN, EAL and Hearing-Impaired students from Year 11 enjoyed an unforgettable rewards trip to London. The day began with a visit to the Sky Garden, where students were treated to breathtaking views of the city’s iconic skyline. It was a perfect opportunity to relax and take in the beauty of London from above. The adventure continued to the historic Tower of London, where students explored centuries of fascinating history. The experience offered a unique blend of learning and leisure, making the day both educational and enjoyable.

"I really enjoyed the trip. What I saw made me so happy because I could see the Christmas lights, trees and tall buildings.
"It was very beautiful and when I went up to the top of Sky Garden, I was shocked at how high up I was.
"The scenery was beautiful and jaw dropping. It was an amazing experience, especially since it was a trip with other students in my year group". Waseem Naqvi [11G]

This trip was not only a reward for their dedication but also a chance to strengthen friendships and create shared memories before their final exams. The day was filled with laughter, discovery, and pride in what they had achieved so far. We are incredibly proud and delighted to provide experiences that inspire, motivate, and celebrate students' success. A huge thank you to the staff who supported the trip and made it such a positive experience for everyone.

As soon as I stepped onto the stage, I could feel my nerves turning into excitement. I was really enjoying myself and having so much fun performing. The audience was so supportive, cheering and clapping, which made me feel proud and confident. Hearing everyone’s reactions as I sang made the experience even more special and memorable. I loved being part of the energy in the room and seeing how my performance could make other people smile and enjoy themselves. Performing in front of everyone gave me such a boost, and it’s an experience I’ll never forget.

Venia Estibeiro [11O]
I played the violin with my friend Fia, who played the guitar, and at first, I felt really nervous because I wanted everything to go perfectly. But as soon as we started, I began to feel confident and focused, and the nerves slowly faded away. When we played our second song, Falling in Love, the audience joined in and started singing along, which was such a wonderful feeling. It made the performance even more enjoyable and exciting. I also thought the event was really well organised by the senior team. It ran so smoothly, and everything felt so professional. Being part of a team and seeing everyone come together to create such a lively, positive atmosphere made me feel proud to perform and to be part of something so special.

Richard Sandhu [11O]
I performed a Michael Jackson dance act, and it was such a thrilling experience to get into all the moves and feel the rhythm on stage. The crowd was amazing, full of energy, cheering, and reacting to every move, which made me feel confident and really happy. At one point, I had to perform a different dance at the last minute, and even though it took a lot of rehearsing and focus, it really paid off in the end. I also loved watching the other performances, especially Jaya’s act and the Gill brothers performing with Jania, which were full of energy and incredibly inspiring. Being part of the show and seeing how everyone brought their own talent and personality to the stage was unforgettable. It made me feel proud to perform, proud to be part of the event, and excited about all the amazing talent I got to share the stage with.

My favourite act was definitely the Michael Jackson dance. It was so entertaining and full of energy. I loved seeing all the moves and the way Richard brought the performance to life. The whole event exposed me to so many different cultures through music, dance, and performances, which was amazing. It was such a wonderful celebration of culture, and it made me feel happy to be part of an audience that could enjoy and appreciate so many different talents.

Maria Beigi [12B]
I really enjoyed the whole show because every act was so unique and full of talent. It was amazing to see the variety of performances, from singing and dancing to instrumental pieces. I loved how everyone put so much effort into their acts, and the energy from the performers was contagious. The event really highlighted how creative and diverse our school community is, and it made me appreciate all the different cultures and styles we have. I left feeling inspired and excited to try something new myself.

I really enjoyed Richard’s Michael Jackson dance act and Retaj’s singing. It was so much fun to watch. The energy on stage was incredible, and the crowd was really getting into it, which made it even more exciting. I also loved how everyone supported each other and how the event brought so many different performances together. The mix of music, dance, and talent from different year groups made it feel like a real celebration. It was inspiring to see so many people sharing their passions and giving it their all.

Sagal Hassan [12E]
The Cultural Fusion event was amazing. I loved watching all the performances, especially the combination of music and dance from different cultures. It was so interesting to see everyone expressing themselves in such unique ways. I was really impressed by how much effort everyone put into their acts, and the atmosphere in the room was so lively and positive. Being part of the audience made me feel proud of our school community and grateful for the opportunity to experience such a creative and fun celebration of culture.

Senior Team

Ayma Babar [12B]
This year’s Cultural Fusion Show aimed to give students a platform to express their cultural identities while bringing the school community together. The event focused on celebration, inclusivity, and providing everyone with an opportunity to discover and appreciate the diverse talents within our school.

The show was carefully organised, with a range of interconnected roles to ensure everything ran smoothly. Mibzall and Armaan managed the lighting, while Harleen and I were responsible for audio, spending three separate days testing and adjusting volume levels to avoid technical issues. Anzal and Kamran took care of the hosts’ microphones, ensuring clear communication throughout the event. Backstage coordination was handled by Ashneet, Ram, Prem, Massoud, and Josette, who prepared performers for their acts and stayed in constant contact with the hosts. Avneet and Ekam managed ticket sales and collection, while Kabir captured the night through photography. Every single role was essential to the success of the event, and it was amazing to see everyone working together so seamlessly.

Feedback from peers was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing how much they enjoyed the event. I was particularly thrilled by the large turnout and the enthusiastic reactions throughout the night, which reflected the overall excitement and success of the show. It was incredibly rewarding to see all our teamwork and planning come to life on stage.

Avneet Virdee [12H]
This year, the senior team organised the Cultural Fusion Show to encourage students to showcase their cultures in front of an audience of peers, parents, and teachers. Organising the event required careful planning, with support from our Head of Year, Miss Ali, the Head of Sixth Form, Mr Naqvi, and our Head Students, Ayma and Ashneet, who assigned roles and helped us stay on track for deadlines.

To promote the show, we visited forms across the school every morning, selling tickets and encouraging students to watch or perform. We held auditions and rehearsals, and on the day of the show, we conducted sound and light checks and provided extra practice for performers. Two of us managed the entrance, welcoming students and parents, and we were thrilled to see a full hall.

The performances were incredible, featuring bhangra, singing, dhol, violin, and guitar, and by the end, all acts joined together to celebrate their success. We also raised £150 for charity, which made the event even more meaningful. The audience played a huge part in the atmosphere, clapping, singing along, and cheering the performers on. The hosts brought energy and humour, while the sound and lighting teams created the perfect stage experience.

Overall, it was a fantastic night full of fun, culture, and celebration. After all the effort that went into preparing the show, it was incredibly rewarding to see everything come together. As the senior team, we faced challenges together, learnt so much, and created an event that we’ll remember for a long time.

Anzal Roble [12B]
I had the incredible opportunity to host the Cultural Fusion Show this year, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The moment I stepped on stage, the crowd’s support immediately put me at ease—they were encouraging, enthusiastic, and genuinely there to enjoy the night, which made the whole atmosphere feel warm and welcoming.

By the end of the event, we had raised over £150 for the Hounslow Food Bank, which gave the evening a real sense of purpose. Knowing that the night wasn’t just entertaining but also made a difference for people in the community made the experience even more rewarding.

The event was a perfect mix of excitement, creativity, and community spirit, and I feel so grateful to have been part of presenting and organising it. It was inspiring to see so many performers share their talents, and the energy in the room made me proud to be part of something that brought everyone together. Overall, it was a lively, heartfelt, and unforgettable night, and I’m really glad I got to play a role in making it happen.

Year 12 Biology A-Level, BTEC Applied Science and Year 11 students had the privilege of listening to a Radiography Careers talk presented by Heston Alumni, Kareena Saroyia and Najib Noor. They are currently in their 3rd year of studying Diagnostic Radiography at City St George University.

During the talk they went into depth about their roles within hospitals, how they interact with both patients and other healthcare professionals, as well as discussing what life is like studying Radiography at university, including the balance between academic learning and practical placements.

The presenters showed us several case study diagrams, where we were encouraged to analyse the images and suggest possible diagnoses, which made the session interactive and engaging.

The talk ended with a question-and-answer session, allowing us to ask about work experience, career opportunities, and the skills needed to become a radiographer. They provided useful guidance on what to look out for in University interviews, (often considered the trickiest part when applying!), highlighting communication skills and understanding the Radiographer’s role.

The talk offered a clear and practical insight into a career in Diagnostic Radiography.

Their passion, knowledge and enthusiasm was both inspiring and eye-opening!

The GCSE exam preparation day was an extremely valuable and beneficial experience. As a Year 11 student, I found the day significant in strengthening my knowledge and preparing for my upcoming mocks and exams.

The day began with focused subject workshops, where teachers addressed key topics that are challenging. In English, we analysed exam-styled questions, discussed effective revision techniques, and reviewed model responses so we are aware of key aspects examiners seek for. In Maths, we tackled a range of problem-solving questions, and unpicked them step by step. These sessions were highly informative and allowed us to familiarise ourselves with what we are expected to achieve.

Overall, the preparation day had a positive impact on all Year 11 students. It not only strengthened our skills, but also equipped us with techniques to revise more effectively and approach exams more prepared.

Jaania Kanwar [11Y]

On Tuesday, 02 December, Year 11 took part in developmental workshops focusing on our core subjects of Maths and English. Overall, the experience was immensely beneficial and productive.

In English, teachers explored key skills which would be used in Question 5 for our Language Paper 2 as well as preparing us for our January Mock Examinations 2026. Together, we focused on how to portray the key factors of Ethos, Pathos and Logos in our writing. We acknowledged how logical reasoning, combined with a personal argument, appeals highly to examiners. Then we were able to focus on the structure of an article, the key type of text we were focusing on. Finally, we attempted to answer a prompt question and gained insightful feedback from our teachers and peers.

In Maths, our focus was directed to the completion of exam papers. We found this incredibly helpful as one-to-one feedback was readily available for us – it almost felt like a private tutoring session! Such an inclusive experience easily strengthened our Maths concepts, especially those that were difficult for us before.

Thank you to all of our teachers for helping us to understand our weaknesses and reach our full potential!

Jasmin Kaur Sangha [11B] and Simran Kaur Punny [11B]

Academic Mentoring Day was really productive. In Economics, we spent the day researching key data to strengthen our arguments and develop our points. We then used this research in a class debate, where Mrs. Kyriacou consistently referred back to the examiners’ report, highlighting where we could gain marks. It was also great to have the opportunity to work with the other Economics class, where we debated for the first time and were able to learn from each other.

Sahib Bains [13F]

Academic Mentor Day was the perfect way to kick-start my revision and get me into the right mindset. Since then, I have been consistent with staying after school every day, and I hope to continue this routine until my final exams. I want to say a massive thank-you to all my teachers who planned such thoughtful sessions. In English, we managed to cover seven poems and analyse them in detail. I now feel much better prepared to analyse poems independently over the Christmas holiday.

Zoya Khatoon [13C]

I would like to say thank you to Mrs. Nandra and Mr. Green for planning such meaningful sessions. We were able to cover a wide range of topics and then completed an exam under full exam conditions, which was great practice. Receiving quick feedback afterwards has really helped me prioritise my revision topics.

Being in that academic environment also helped me develop important research skills, such as navigating databases and evaluating sources more critically. Beyond the practical side, spending time in a university atmosphere gave me a taste of independent study and showed me how research is carried out at a higher level.

For our art trip, we went to Central London and visited several art museums, galleries, and libraries. These included the Wellcome Collection, the British Library, and lots of smaller exhibitions along Cork Street [which is known for its collection of seasonal galleries]. This trip was very useful for developing and adding to our Unit 1 Portfolios in A-Level Art Craft and Design and Graphic design.

On Cork Street, we visited The Redfern Gallery, The Flowers Gallery, Waddington Custot, and The Frieze. These galleries have lots of paintings, drawings, sculptures, clothing, photographs, and installations of different sizes and colours that related to a wide variety of themes, including identity, anatomy, nature, architecture, emotions, and memories. This allowed me to take a lot of primary photographs of all types of artwork that will be essential for me for inspiration and development to make a strong unit 1 book and final piece.

At the Wellcome Collection, there were a large range of exhibitions on different topics and their links to art. We visited an exhibition titled “Thirst: In Search of Freshwater” that was all about the importance of water to humans and how humanity can work together to end the mismanagement of it. In the exhibition, I saw lots of installations of sculptures, paintings, and photo-shoots of artwork relating to the importance of water to humans.

In the British Library, we came across a wide range of books and exhibitions relating to our respective art themes. This was useful for being able to do wider reading around art and with gaining a better understanding of our art themes.

Overall, I found the trip very enjoyable as we got to look at lots of artwork in person and it was also extremely useful for collecting primary photographs for future drawing references and for general inspiration for art.

They have four colleges and a Sixth Form around Langley and Slough. They offer Level 3 courses, including T levels with requirements of five good GCSE grades. They also offer a wide range of courses for students of all interests. Slough and Langley offer some apprenticeships in Cyber Engineering, IT and Plumbing. Most of their facilities look like the workplace environment to ensure students get some experience in this setting. I think it was a really useful talk for students who aren’t sure of their pathways just yet, as it makes you think of some colleges you could go to after year 11. It helps guide a student in their thinking and choices about what they may enjoy studying, as this will be an important part of their pathway through to their career of choice.

It was an insightful talk and showed options for students after GCSEs. It was hugely beneficial to people who weren’t sure about what they would do as yet and all the potential pathways at Post 16 available to them.

The Tempest can easily be considered as one of the best plays that I have watched. The story starts with a shipwreck, and the survivors end up on a deserted island where a man named Prospero lives with his daughter Miranda, a magical spirit, and a wild boy. Prospero was kicked out of Milan 12 years ago when Miranda was a baby. His brother, Antonio, stole his place as the Duke with help from the King of Naples, Alonso. On the island, Miranda falls in love with Alonso’s son Ferdinand, and they get engaged. In the end, Prospero forgives everyone, breaks his magic staff, gives up his powers, and goes back to Milan to be a Duke again. I loved this play because the story brought together fantasy and history in an epic tale that, despite being written in the 1600s, is still relevant in 2025.

I enjoyed the atmosphere of the fair the most. It was energetic, full of opportunities, and gave me the chance to speak directly with professionals who were enthusiastic about helping young people plan their futures. Being able to explore so many different pathways in one place made the whole experience exciting and motivating.

The legal and security services stalls stood out to me the most, especially those representing law firms and organisations offering solicitor apprenticeships. They provided clear explanations of the solicitor pathway, the skills needed, and what day to day work in the legal field looks like. I found it inspiring to hear directly from people working in the profession I want to pursue.

The most useful thing I learnt was how accessible the solicitor apprenticeship route can be. I discovered that it’s possible to qualify while gaining real experience and earning at the same time, which made the career feel much more achievable. Hearing about the structure of the programme and the support apprentices receive was especially exciting.

The event helped me feel far more confident about my future because it gave me a clearer understanding of the steps I need to take. Speaking with employers made the process feel less intimidating, and I left with a stronger sense of direction and reassurance that there are multiple routes into the legal profession.

I would definitely recommend the fair to other students because it’s a rare chance to explore so many career options in one place. Whether someone knows exactly what they want to do or is still figuring things out, the fair offers valuable insights, real conversations with employers, and practical guidance that can shape their next steps.

Vajahat Hussain [13C]

What I enjoyed most about the apprenticeship fair was the chance to speak directly with professionals from the finance sector and explore the various pathways into the industry. Being able to ask questions and hear real experiences made the information much more engaging and easier to understand.

I found the stalls for banking and accounting firms especially interesting. The representatives explained the different roles available, how salary progression works, and the practical skills I could develop through their apprenticeship programmes. This helped me gain a clearer picture of what a future career in finance might look like.

The most useful insight I gained was learning about the growing opportunities in financial technology [FinTech]. I was surprised by how many companies now offer apprenticeships that include digital and technical skills, showing how the industry is evolving. Overall, the fair broadened my understanding of the finance sector and gave me confidence about the range of options available.

Amandeep Singh [13D]

At the apprenticeship fair at the ExCeL Centre in London, I really valued the opportunity to speak directly with employers and explore a wide range of career pathways. One highlight was the radiography stall, which clearly explained how healthcare apprenticeships can lead to essential NHS roles and outlined the training routes in a way that was easy to understand.

I was particularly interested to learn that apprenticeships allow you to earn while gaining recognised qualifications, with many programmes offering clear routes into higher-level positions. This helped me see how apprenticeships can provide strong long-term career prospects.

Overall, the fair boosted my confidence by showing that there are multiple pathways to success beyond university. I would definitely recommend it to other students, as it offers a valuable chance to explore different options, ask questions, and make meaningful connections with employers.

I really enjoyed it because the show was really funny and entertaining.

My favourite character was either Alfie or the evil man. Alfie because he was really funny and made the show great to watch. The evil man because his wickedness made him stand out. Also, the way he spoke was very interesting!
I would love to go again as the show was very shocking and interesting to watch. Also, different types of characters would be interesting to see, so I can see different types of acting.

On Monday, 08 December, we got the opportunity to go to Hounslow to watch the pantomime ‘Mother Goose’. It was very funny and I enjoyed it so much. My favourite character was Alfie because he was really funny and kept trying to make the audience laugh. I really enjoyed my experience and would love to go again but next time I would want it to be even longer! I think more children should get to experience the theatre. The thing I enjoyed the most was when Alfie was throwing a pie in his father’s face while he was singing. Overall, I would recommend it to other people.

On Monday, 08 December we went to the pantomime at the Hounslow Arts Centre. The pantomime we saw was called, ‘Mother Goose’. The performance was really cool and a great experience. It was a really interactive experience and they encouraged the audience to get involved and participate. In one scene, there were ghosts and we got to interact with the characters and say things like “he’s behind you” or “watch out”. I also thought that the story line was interesting as well. I really hope that the School does more of these trips in the future.

Recently, our school proudly hosted a More Able Evening, bringing together parents, students, and staff to celebrate and nurture exceptional talent. The event was designed to showcase opportunities for our most able learners and to strengthen the partnership between home and school in supporting their academic journey.

The Evening began with a warm welcome from our teaching team, followed by an inspiring presentation from our Senior Sixth Form Team, Ms Jennings, Mr Ireland, Mr Ghataura and Tanveer on strategies to challenge and engage high-achieving students as well as opportunities after beyond academic life. Parents gained valuable insights into how the School tailors learning experiences to stretch potential and foster creativity. The evening was a wonderful celebration of ambition, curiosity, and collaboration—a reminder that when we work together, students thrive and achieve their full potential.

The More Able Evening was a helpful and interesting event. It gave me a better understanding of how to stretch my learning and aim for higher academic goals. During the evening, an external guest speaker came in to talk about his journey from Oxford and how it led him to work at the Bank Of England. He shared how his education and experiences helped him build key skills and succeed in his career. Some Year 13 students also spoke about their experiences with university admissions tests. They gave useful advice about preparation, time management, and how to stay motivated when applying for competitive courses. Overall, the evening was very informative and encouraged me to start thinking about my future goals and how to work towards them.

Ashneet Arora [12D]

The session began with a personal reflection on life at Oxford, highlighting the unique culture at Oxford and how he faced challenges adapting to a new environment, as well as the change from studying collectively to independent study. Tanveer provided us with tips on how to manage both the change and time effectively, offering practical advice for those considering top-tier universities. The talk concluded with a Q&A session, where we asked about university applications, personal statements, and career pathways. Tanveer provided thoughtful responses and encouraged us to aim high, reminding us that ambition paired with hard work can open doors to incredible opportunities.

Overall, the event was both informative and inspiring, leaving us motivated to explore our potential and consider the possibilities that lie ahead.

Prem Ghatora [12H]

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend Heston's more able evening; an event designed to both inspire and aid students with great potential aspirations. The introductory segment of the session began with a reminder of what it truly means to be a "More Able Student" and the increased expectations that are attached to the label. It also went on to provide a further overview, and importance, of the enrichment activities provided by the school, including both extracurricular activities, such as clubs [more oriented towards sports], enabling student creativity, in addition to super-curricular activities. These are more focused towards enriching your academics, such as the various student led societies that are on offer, as well as going into depth about the potential benefits that partaking in these societies could have on your university applications. Once the introduction concluded, we were then segmented into our respective year groups where we were greeted by Tanveer [an Oxford alumni] who shared insight on his experience attending the university and provided a deeper dive into what it actually took to get him there. Overall, I found the evening to be a deeply enriching experience, providing me with insight into the steps I would need to take in order to successfully pursue my own goals and clarity to my future career prospects.

Alpi Uddin Bhuyan [11W]

It consisted of various aspects, such as an overview of the School’s aims for high achieving students and anecdotes from the current Sixth Former students and an external speaker. I found the experience immensely valuable and I was able to get a one-to-one opportunity to ask tailored questions to the Sixth Formers, who had achieved their GCSEs not too long ago. The Evening consisted of an exploration of different career types, ranging from a focus on Computer Science to Medicine and Law. We were able to try university entrance questions for each of the subjects and were advised on the application processes. Overall, I found the Evening exceptionally educational. It has left me with better knowledge about my future options and career opportunities to what I held previously.

Jasmin Sachdeva [12E]

At our recent More Able Evening, I delivered a speech to the junior cohort, encouraging students to make the most of opportunities beyond the classroom. I reflected on my own journey of exploring different career paths, sharing how I initially struggled to identify a clear passion. Attending insight days, internships, and confidence programmes helped me to focus my attention on economics, where I discovered a strong interest in data analysis and behavioural economics.
I spoke about how experiences such as the Morgan Stanley Confidence Programme, the Cisco Internship, a four-week finance programme at Queen Mary’s University, and numerous insight events shaped my academic direction. By sharing these opportunities, I aimed to show prospective students how engaging with extracurricular and super-curricular activities can provide clarity, build valuable skills, and inspire confidence in their future aspirations.

The Year 10 Geographers had the fantastic opportunity to travel to Hengistbury Head near Bournemouth as part of their GCSE fieldwork investigation. The trip was spread out over two days with 60 students going on each day. It was an early start with a 07:30 departure, but it was worth it! When we arrived at the coast there were breathtaking views of the coastline.

The purpose of our trip was to collect data that would help us to answer our key question: ‘To what extent does beach width vary at Hengistbury head?’ We went to three different sites and at each site we were split into groups of 4/5. We measured how wide the beach was as well as the rate of longshore drift. Although we had practised this in class, doing it in the open was slightly more challenging than expected as the wind kept blowing our tape measure, so we had to come together as a team and try and solve that particular problem.

To measure the longshore drift, we had to throw oranges into the sea and measure how far they travelled in sixty-seconds. Keeping track of the oranges was tricky, especially when a seagull swopped down and took the orange away!

As we walked from site to site, our teachers pointed out our different types of coastal management techniques and also evidence of coastal processes like erosion and slumping that we had learnt about in the classroom. This really helped us to see first hand how the theory can be applied to real-life environments and brought the subject to life.

All in all, it was an exhilarating experience and we are so grateful to everyone who helped to plan and organise the trip.

This act shows us not to do silly things on the road, like pushing our friends on the road or playing football or any other sport on the footpath, as the ball can get on the road and it would be too dangerous to get it back.

If you ever need to cross the road, first check if there are any cars nearby and secondly, check if there is a green man; do not cross if it is a red man.

There are three key terms, one of them is called peer pressure, which means to force someone to do something they don’t want to do. The second one is called peer influence, which means to influence someone. For example, when someone is doing silly things, then you do it after them without the person forcing you to. The third one is called distraction, which means that you are distracted by something. For example, you don’t know what’s going on outside as you are on your phone and unaware of your surroundings.

Harsiart Kaur Sran [7G]

I liked the performance because the three people were acting well. They explained a lot about road safety, like when crossing a road, always look right and left. If you are wearing airpods or headphones, take them off, in case a car is speeding.

They also explained that if people are peer pressuring you to do something unsafe on the road, you should try to ignore it or walk away. They also talked about peer influence, meaning if your friends are doing something which you will find cool, you might want to do it yourself.

They also helped us understand road safety in a deeper way and explained why it is our responsibility to keep ourselves safe.

Heston Community School’s Year 8 boys played a match against Reach Academy at the Brentford Training Ground. The game started off shaky with Heston conceding a goal early, leading to a 4–2 victory. After giving way an early goal, we had to stay calm and show real resilience.
New for 2026, we will be introducing the Onvu Learning Platform in selected classrooms. This will enable teachers to record and review sections of their lessons and reflect on their practice, helping them refine and further develop their teaching to better meet the needs of our students.

If you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
