Welcome Year 7

New Year 7 students enjoy their first day

 7W Tutor Group

Heston Community School welcomed its new Year 7 students on Wednesday 3 September one day before the majority of students return for the start of the new school year.

The students were welcomed by Headteacher Phil Ward in the school’s refurbished Assembly Hall. Mr Ward outlined the opportunities that the boys and girls could grasp at Heston and encouraged them to do just that, concluding by saying that although you can never change what you have done already “anyone can make a new ending … you can be whatever you choose to be.”

The students were then introduced to their Tutors and had a variety of sessions to help them get to know the site, their fellow students and what is expected of them. The day included a number of team building tasks which saw the students compete at Dodge Ball as well as try to create the tallest spaghetti and marshmallow tower.

Year 7 Learning Co-ordinator Maureen Ryan, who was very pleased with day and the students’ enthusiastic participation, said: “Starting a new school can be a daunting prospect and we designed this day to be a fun welcome for our new students and to give them an opportunity to find their way around as well as to meet new friends. They also had the opportunity to work in teams and I was delighted with the way they tackled the challenges we set them. I look forward to seeing them develop at Heston.”
