Well done to the Year 10 students who entered the Learning Respect domestic violence competition which focused on Teenage Domestic Abuse.

Congratulations to Wiktoria (10 Blue and pictured below right) for winning the competition and receiving a £20 voucher. She drew an interesting poster representing her views on domestic violence which captured the imagination of the judging panel.

Wiktoria’ poster was kept by, and may be used by, the organisers of the competition but she describes it here together with her view on teenage domestic violence generally: “My poster shows a girl using her hand to protect herself and I think that it is a situation which no one wants to be in. Making the poster for the competition helped me understand more about this important issue and see that we can do a lot of things to change it to be better.”

Runners up were Amee (10 Purple), Jade, Mehreen and Angeline (all 10 White) who are pictured above with Miss Khalid (unfortunately Jade was not available for the photograph). They all were involved in creative writing through their poetry and stories emphasising the importance of stopping domestic violence.

“I wrote a short poem about teenage domestic violence. It was directed to victims of domestic violence about how they can escape their world of violence.”  - Mehreen

“I entered a story for the Learning Respect competition because I wanted to make people aware that domestic violence is something that should not be overlooked by society, instead the issue should be tackled now, or otherwise it will be deemed normal, which is morally wrong.” - Amee

“It was an excellent effort by all students!” -  Miss Khalid, Year 10 Assistant Learning Co-ordinator and organiser of the competition in association with the Learning to Respect Programme run by Hounslow Council.
