Important Information for Parents and Students

Staff Only Day on Friday, 24 June 2011

I thought it useful to write to remind you that, as published in Student Planners, the School will be closed to students, on Friday, 24 June 2011 for the final Staff INSET Day of this Academic Year.

The only exception to this will be for students sitting public examinations in either of the two sessions that day:

·         Year 13 students sitting Examinations in Chemistry and English Language should report to School at 0845 in order to start their examination at 0900.

·         Year 10 students sitting GCSE Science and Year 13 students sitting examinations in Mathematics or PE, should report to School at 1325 in order to start their examination at 1330.  

Public Sector Industrial Action on Thursday, 30 June 2011  

As you are also aware public sector workers (including members of some teaching unions) have voted to take part in 24 hours of coordinated strike action to defend their pensions. This strike is scheduled for Thursday, 30 June 2011.  I am currently liaising with the relevant unions at the School and undertaking a Risk Assessment to assess the number of staff involved and the implications for the School on this day.

Once this Risk Assessment has been completed and I have all the information on which to base any decision, I will write to you again.  I appreciate that many parents/carers may potentially need to make alternative child care arrangements for this day, in the event of us not being able to remain open.  I expect to have the necessary information by the end of this week and will confirm our plans as soon as possible.
