Thorough is WOTW

The Word of the Week this week is THOROUGH

 WOTW - thoroughIn our efforts to continue to develop students’ literacy we have a ‘Word of the Week’ programme.

The ‘Word of the Week’ will be displayed in classrooms and around the school and will be used throughout lessons in order to ensure students are developing their vocabulary. Literacy achievement points can now be awarded to students for the correct usage of these words in all lessons.

The ‘Word of the Week’ for the week commencing 29th February is: Thorough.

Thorough:

1.    To complete a task or activity paying close attention to every detail.

Example: Year 8 completed their homework tasks thoroughly, making sure that every question was answered.

2.    Performed or written with great care or completeness.

Example: The acts at Cultural Fusion were thorough in their preparation for their performances.

3.    Absolute. The word thorough can be used when describing something that was particularly unwelcome.

Example: The noise from the airport can be a thorough nuisance.

Synonyms: Detailed, meticulous, absolute.

Antonyms: Superficial, partial, careless.
