Word of the Week - Beguile

Beguile ... the WOTW for w/c 22nd February

 In our efforts to continue to develop students’ literacy we have a ‘Word of the Week’ programme.

The ‘Word of the Week’ will be displayed in classrooms and around the school and will be used throughout lessons in order to ensure students are developing their vocabulary. Literacy achievement points can now be awarded to students for the correct usage of these words in all lessons.

The ‘Word of the Week’ for the week commencing 22nd February is: Beguile.

Beguile:

1.    To charm or enchant someone in a deceptive way.

Example: The politician beguiled the voters with his empty words and promises.

2.    To trick someone into doing something.

Example: She beguiled him into sharing his lunch with her.

3.    To help time pass pleasantly.

Example: To beguile some of the time they went to the cinema.

Synonyms: Captivate, bewitch, fascinate.

Antonyms: Disenchant, refuse.
