This week's word - DERIVE

 Word of the week - deriveThe ‘Word of the Week’ will be displayed in classrooms and around the school and will be used throughout lessons in order to ensure students are developing their vocabulary. Literacy achievement points can now be awarded to students for the correct usage of these words in all lessons.

 

The ‘Word of the Week’ for the week commencing 16th November is: DERIVE

Meaning – To obtain something from someone or something.

Examples:

He repeatedly made it clear that his story was derived from what his friend has said.

The word ‘man’ is derived from the Sanskrit ‘manas’.

Synonyms: acquire and formulate.

Antonyms: misunderstand and doubt.
