What is PSHCE?

PSHCE is the Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic Education of our students.  It aims to equip children and young people with the knowledge and skills to deal with a range issues they face as they grow up.

What do students study in PSHCE ?

At Key Stage 3 students investigate a variety of topics including:

  • sex and relationship education
  • careers education including how to plan and manage choices for their GCSE courses
  • personal wellbeing covering healthy lifestyles, smoking, alcohol and drug misuse
  • citizenship education
  • finance education

At Key Stage 4 students investigate a variety of topics including:

  • careers education including how to plan and manage their options after GCSEs
  • managing personal finances
  • understanding economic changes
  • healthy relationships and sexual health
  • citizenship education
  • personal wellbeing including mental health

How is PSHCE taught?

Students have one lesson of PSHCE each week taught in mixed ability tutor groups by the tutor.  The programme is led and devised by the Assistant Learning Coordinator in each year group.

We equip our students with the information they need to tackle the commonplace and the often difficult decisions that will arise in their lives.  PSHCE aims to build students' personal identities, confidence and self-esteem, enabling  them to understand and accommodate difference and change, to manage emotions and to communicate constructively in a variety of settings.
