Aims of Mentoring Scheme
Learning Mentors aim to run a mentoring scheme, which will be complimentary to school systems, which mentees will find encouraging, enlightening, stimulating and fun. Mentors will work with teaching and non-teaching staff to support identified pupils to overcome barriers to learning in order to achieve their full potential.

What are Learning Mentors
Learning Mentors provide a complementary service to existing teaching and non-teaching staff. They seek to address the needs of individual pupils both inside and outside the school to assist them in achieving their full potential and overcoming barriers to learning.

The Learning Mentors will focus on the following areas:

  • Poor attendants
  • Underachievers
  • Refugees
  • Those at risk of permanent exclusion
  • Gifted & Talented pupils
  • Pupils with learning difficulties
  • Year 7 - 9 pupils

Learning Mentors will support pupils in the following areas:

  • Motivation
  • Self-esteem
  • Relationships with peers & teachers
  • Personal organisation
  • Punctuality & attendance
  • Social skills
  • Focus in class
  • Home concerns
  • Behaviour in class and unstructured times

All referrals should be made on the appropriate form, (see appendix 1) by HOY or HOF, who will then pass them on to the SENCO. The pupil will meet with their mentor once a week, for up to 2 terms, depending on their individual needs.
