Key skills tested:

                                       Unit 1: Listening

                                       20% of the marks

                                       Foundation Tier - 30 min (+5 min reading time)

                                       Higher Tier - 40m min (+5 min reading time)

 

A range of question types in English based on pre-recorded spoken material in the target language.                                     

  Unit 2: Reading

                                       20% of the marks

                                       Foundation Tier - 30 min                                       

                                       Higher Tier - 50 min

 

A range of question types in English based on written material in the target language.

 Unit 3: Speaking

                                      30% of the marks

                                      Controlled Assessment (internally assessed)

                                      Students are required to submit two tasks for moderation.

Unit 4: Writing

                                        30% of the marks

                                        Controlled Assessment (externally assessed)

                                        Students are required to submit two tasks for marking.

  • In Listening and Reading there are two tiers of assessment: Foundation (C - G) and Higher (A* - D).  Students can be entered for either Foundation or Higher in each of these two skills, e.g. Foundation Listening and Higher Reading.
  • There are no tiers for Speaking and Writing. Differentiation is by outcome, not by task.
